Lockton Re hires Gallagher Re’s Meyer as head of specialty

Lockton Re has hired Tom Meyer from Gallagher Re as head of its specialty reinsurance broking division, with Paul Upton moving up to chairman of the unit, The Insurer can reveal.

Meyer most recently served Gallagher Re as managing director, specialty. He joined the business in September last year, having previously served as CEO of Chord Re.

His career also includes over a decade at Aspen where he served in roles including CUO of Aspen Bermuda and head of specialty re for Aspen Re.

Prior to joining Aspen in 2006, Meyer spent four years at Allianz and six years at Willis Re.

Meyer’s arrival will see Upton, Lockton Re’s current head of specialty, promoted to chairman of specialty, this publication understands.

Upton has been at Lockton Re since early 2020, before which he was at JLT Re for almost 11 years.

His long career in the (re)insurance industry also includes stints at Price Forbes as its reinsurance director, along with global head of marine and energy at Endurance.

Lockton Re declined to comment. A Gallagher Re spokesperson said the company wished him well for the future.
