AIG names Sompo’s Haldeman as head of BDA financial lines
AIG has hired Jesse Haldeman as head of financial lines Bermuda, with the executive moving over from Sompo International on the island.
Haldeman was most recently senior vice president and financial institutions practice leader at Sompo International and had been with its predecessor Endurance since joining from Zurich Financial Services in 2003.
His appointment as head of financial lines Bermuda at AIG comes after the departure of David Friston last month to join Hamilton to lead the carrier’s new financial lines offering.
As previously reported, Friston is joining Hamilton’s other insurance leaders on the island including Gavin Davis, head of property direct and facultative, and Elaine Scully, head of casualty.
Bermuda is a significant market for a number of specialty insurance lines including large commercial property, casualty and financial lines, typically written on an excess basis.
Submissions to the island have mushroomed over the last couple of years of hard market conditions for commercial insurance as onshore carriers have retrenched, leading brokers to seek additional capacity from other sources.
AIG declined to comment and Sompo International did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
