Alleghany reports $40mn Covid-driven underwriting loss

Alleghany swung from a $115mn underwriting profit in the prior-year period to a deficit of $40mn in the second quarter including the impact of $135mn of Covid-19 losses primarily driven by TransRe, including additional event cancellation losses and an estimate for international business interruption claims.
