Aon US property veteran Miller passes away
Aon’s US property practice leader Rick Miller has passed away at the age of 62 following a brief illness.
The US property veteran joined Aon in 2005 as chief broking officer for national property, and was then elevated to practice leader in 2016.
Prior to Aon he held underwriting roles at A&A, Industrial Risk Insurers and AIG.
Miller was part of the first Property Symposium in 2006, which has grown over the years to a flagship event of almost 2,000 attendees under his leadership.
In a note, Brian Wanat, head of Commercial Risk Solutions, North America at Aon, said: “It is an understatement to say Rick was a giant in our industry, and his roots in property ran deep … Without fail, he was the most engaging and energetic person at every symposium, always shining in a room of 1,500 clients, market partners and colleagues.”
Wanat continued: “Throughout his career, Rick built a reputation as a rare talent with exceptional technical acumen and an incredible ability to connect with people. He used his leadership position to elevate others while shying away from personal accolades and gains.
“Whether speaking to a CEO, a summer intern or a Fortune 500 client, Rick treated everyone with the same level of dignity and respect. It is rare to find someone in our industry who didn’t consider him a friend.”
Senior industry figures from a range of companies have paid tribute to Miller’s life, career and personality in response to a post from Wanat on LinkedIn.
He is survived by his wife, Jen, and their children, Amanda and Richard.
