CNA UW gain slips 17% to $130mn in Q1 as cats more than double to $52mn

Underwriting income at CNA fell 17 percent in the first quarter to $130mn after cat losses at the company more than doubled to $52mn - from $19mn the year before - and as it took a $15mn reserve charge, although its core loss ratio improved to 59.8 percent from 60.1 percent.
