The Hanover beats despite higher underlying combined ratio

The Hanover Insurance Group reported third quarter operating profits of $30.8mn that were only a third of the $93.5mn generated in the prior-year period on preannounced cat losses but beat Wall Street forecasts despite a higher underlying combined ratio.
